About Us

The Andaman & Nicobar Islands are a Union Territory of India comprising of 836 Islands, Islets and Rocky Outcrops, situated in the Bay of Bengal, closer to Southeast Asia than mainland India.

Known for its rich biodiversity, tropical forests and unique agro-climatic conditions, the islands are home to over 4.3 lakh people, many of whom depend on agriculture for their livelihood. With warm, humid weather and annual rainfall of 3000 mm, the islands are ideal for cultivating a wide variety of spices.

To realize this vision, the Department of Agriculture, Andaman & Nicobar Administration has launched the SPICE PRAVAH initiative. The Department plays a central role in:

Expanding spice cultivation across thousands of hectares
Reducing dependency on imports through local production
Building opportunities in processing, packaging and agro-tourism
Reviving the island's historical spice heritage with potential for GI recognition

SPICE PRAVAH is more than an agricultural programme. it is a movement to empower farmers, strengthen the rural economy and re-establish the Andaman & Nicobar Islands as a proud hub of the spice trade.
